New look Beef head to Colorado

Omaha Beef @ Colorado Spartans

April 18th – 8pm CT

Denver Coliseum

After using their bye week to reorganize, the Omaha Beef, who are 0-4 record, travel to the Denver Coliseum on Saturday night to take on the Colorado Spartans, who stand at 2-3. Omaha is coming off a 26-6 loss to the Sioux City Bandits at Liberty First Credit Union Arena on April 4th while Colorado beat the Amarillo Warbirds 40-11 last Saturday in Denver. The team and head coach Brandon Negron parted ways as the Beef named Adam Loftis, the current defensive coordinator, the team’s 19th head coach. Negron went 5-2 last season as Omaha lost in the NAL championship game to Beaumont. Loftis, who will coach the team for the rest of the season, played for the Beef from 2011-2013 and returned to the team as an assistant coach in 2018.

During the bye week the team brought in two veteran quarterbacks to compete for the starting job: Kobe Gatson (NAZ Wranglers, Tulsa Oilers) and Giovanni Sanders (SW Kansas, Idaho Horsemen). They will look to improve Omaha’s offense which ranks 8th in scoring (21.2), 7th in total offense (164.8) with the ground game ranking 8th averaging 82.8 yards per game and the passing game ranking 7th at 108.5 yards per game.

Omaha re-signed Tabyus Taylor this week to boost the running game. Taylor had 12 carries for 57 yards and one touchdown in the game at Salina. Receiver Dequan Dudley is third in the NAL in receiving yards per game (11 receptions, 149 yds, 3 TD) while William Langford (11 receptions, 68 yards, 1 TD), Korrell Koehlmoos (7 receptions, 67 yards, 1 touchdown) are Beef’s core receivers. The team also got Devanaire Conliffe back from injury reserve this week. In two games this season Conliffe has one catch for 28-yard touchdown. Dudley has also returned 10 kickoffs for 155 yards. Kicker Chase Contreraz has gone 8 for 11 on extra points tries and is 1 for 4 on field goals.

Defensive linemen Jayshawn Washington leads the team with 23 tackles which is fourth in the NAL in tackles per game, while defensive backs Jaylen Perkins has 20 tackles and Ponce Deleon has 17 tackles. Omaha has four interceptions this season with one each for Perkins, Deleon, Terrance Jackson, and Jonathan Adams. Rudy Ngougni has two of the teams three sacks with Jaylen Johnson getting the other one.

Colorado began the 2026 season with former NFL quarterback Paxton Lynch as their starting quarterback; however, he sustained an injury during their game at Salina on March 28. Last week, veteran backup Javin Kolgo left the game early due to an injury. The Spartans offense ranks third in scoring as running back/wide receiver Alexis Rosario leads the team with 77 yards on 26 carries and three touchdowns. Devontae Jackson, who sat out last week, has carried the ball 28 times for 68 yards. The team was a strong wide receiver group with Bizzet Woodley, second in the NAL in receptions per game and third in yards per game, with 28 receptions for 272 yards and seven touchdowns. Steven Newbold, seventh in receptions per game and sixth in yards per game, has caught 19 passes for 246 yards and eight touchdowns. Rosario is seventh in receptions per game, grabbing 19 passes for 147 yards and 3 touchdowns. The fourth wide receiver Brean Michel and 10 receptions for 103 yards and one touchdown.

Scott Roche is 8-for-14 on extra points and 1-for-1 on field goals (long: 49 yards) but missed the second half against Amarillo last week. The Spartans signed kicker Jonathan Cardoza-Chicas who played for the Wheeling Miners last season and scored 34 points in 9 games. He successfully converted 5 of his 16 field goal attempts and completed 19 out of 25 extra point opportunities.

Travion Mosby leads Colorado’s defense with three interceptions of the team’s nine, while Dillion Thomas and Joe Powell each have two. Thomas is the Spartans leading tackler with 24, while the front three of Sam Hammond, Cory Henry, and Jack Robinson have 4 sacks.

Omaha will return to Ralston next week as they host the Dallas Bulls at Liberty First Credit Union Arena.
