Beef tries for fourth straight victory in Saturday's game vs Colorado

Colorado Spartans @ Omaha Beef

May 23rd – 6:30pm CT

Liberty First Credit Union Arena

The Omaha Beef (3-5) return to Liberty First Credit Union Arena on a three-game winning streak to face the Colorado Spartans (4-4) in a matchup with playoff-seeding implications. With two weeks left in the regular season, Colorado holds the fifth seed and Omaha sits sixth. The Beef are coming off a 41-37 road win over Sioux City, while the Spartans are coming off a bye.

Quarterback Vincent Espinoza has played well over the past two games and earned Offensive Player of the Week in the win over Sioux City. Against the Bandits, he completed 19 of 30 passes for 152 yards and four touchdowns and over that two-game stretch, he is 29 of 48 for nine touchdowns and one interception and added 78 rushing yards on nine carries. He has helped the team improve on their scoring offense as the team now averages 32.2 points per game.

The running game will get a boost this week after the team signed D’Nerius Antoine, who was released by the Louisiana Rouxgaroux. In seven games with the Rouxgaroux he carried the ball 48 times for 156 yards and scored eight touchdowns and caught eight passes for 105 yards. He will join David Ross who has 38 carries for 125 yards and three touchdowns, but he had to fill in on the offensive line after Dalton Phillips got injured last game.

Dequan Dudley, who ranks fifth in kick return average at 16.7 yards per game and second in all-purpose yards at 92.7 per game, has 18 receptions for 314 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. Fellow wideout Devanaire Conliffe, who caught two of those touchdown passes vs the Bandit and finished with 10 receptions for 89 yards, has 17 catches for 242 yards and six touchdowns. Since signing two weeks ago, Ivan Corbin has contributed eight carries for 22 yards and two touchdowns, along with eight receptions for 45 yards and two more scores.

Kicker Chase Contreraz is 27 of 33 on extra points and his 81.8 percent made is tops in the NAL.

Jaylen Perkins leads Omaha defense with 34 tackles and four interceptions. Linebacker Jaylen Johnson added 27 tackles, and Brandon Munoz has 26 tackles, four sacks, and 10 tackles for loss. Chris Perry, who was named week 11 Defensive Player of the Week has 22 tackles and two interceptions this season. As a team, Omaha ranks first in total defense at 173.6 yards per game, third in scoring defense at 33.8 points allowed per game, and second in passing defense at 113.1 yards per game. This week they will be tested the top offense in the NAL.

Javin Kilgo, who ranks second in passing efficiency at 114.5 and total offense at 203.4 yards per game, leads the NAL in passing at 186.8 yards per game. He is 84 of 121 with 25 touchdown passes and five interceptions, and he has added 83 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. Running back Alexis Rosario has 40 carries for 113 yards and three touchdowns, plus 31 receptions for 242 yards and five scores. Wide receiver Brean Michel has 22 carries for 101 yards and two touchdowns and 23 catches for 249 yards and four touchdowns. Bizzet Woodley ranks second in the NAL in receptions per game (5.8), third in receiving yards per game (65.2), and third in scoring (11.0 points per game). Woodley leads the receiving corps with 46 catches for 522 yards and 14 touchdowns. Steven Newbold, who ranks sixth in the NAL in kick return average at 15.9 yards, fourth in scoring at 10.5 points per game, and fifth in all-purpose yards at 85.9 per game has caught 28 passes for 349 yards as 12 touchdowns.

As a team, Colorado ranks first in the league in scoring and total offense at 44.9 points and 232.6 yards per game, and second in passing efficiency.

Colorado has used multiple kickers this season, much like Omaha has rotated quarterbacks. The Spartans have had five different players attempt extra points and currently carry two kickers. Newly signed Alex Steiner is 1 for 1 on field goals, including a 26-yarder, and 3 of 5 on extra points. Jonathan Cordoza-Chicas is 3 of 10 on extra points tries.

Dillion Thomas leads Colorado defense with 44 tackles, followed by Travion Mosby with 36, Joe Powell with 31, and Sam Hammond with 31. Hammond also has three sacks and nine tackles for loss. Mosby tied for the lead in the NAL with six interceptions for a defense that ranks fourth in points allowed (36.4) and fourth in yards allowed (192.9).

Omaha closes the regular season on the road against the Louisiana Rouxgaroux, who might be a completely different team that they played on May 9th.
