Beef return to Ralston looking for 1st win
|
The 0-5 Omaha Beef return to Ralston to take on the 2-2 Dallas Bulls Saturday night at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. Last week the Beef lost on the road at Denver 45-28 to the Spartans as the Dallas Bulls were a 54-40 winner at Louisiana. Head Coach Adam Loftis is looking forward to returning home and continuing to improve as a team.
The return of Tabyus Taylor saw him carry the ball 15 times for 58 yards and two touchdowns last week, as he increased his season total to 115 yards on 27 carries. He is first in the NAL averaging 57.5 yards on the ground per game. Omaha ran the ball 21 times and only threw the ball 10 times vs Denver. Omaha looks to find an answer to the quarterback position, as six players have thrown at least two passes. Last week Kobe Gatson took over for Giovanni Sanders and went 4 of 8 passing for 39 yards and 1 touchdown, but he was released this week. Dequan Dudley leads the wideouts with 12 receptions for 166 yards and four touchdowns. William Langford (11 rec. 68 yds, 1td), Korrell Koehlmoos (8 rec. 72 yds, 1 td), Lorenzo Thompson (4 rec 54 yds), Cameron Alves (4 rec 22 yds) and Devanaire Conliffe (2 rec 37 yds, 1td) are the other receivers for the Beef.
The Beef defense is looking to put more pressure on the opponent’s quarterbacks, and they have on three sacks this season and five interceptions. Defensive linemen Jayshawn Washington leads the team with 26 tackles (6th in NAL in tpg), team leader with two sack is Rudy Ngougni has made 16 tackles and four tackles for loss, while Brandon Munoz has 15 tackles and 3.5 TFL.
Omaha kicker Chase Contreraz has made 12 of 15 extra point attempts.
Dallas head coach Darion Watts’ team continues to improve during the season as they are on a two-game winning streak. They open the season with losses to Colorado and Pueblo but have beaten Amarillo and Louisiana. The Bulls have made a ton of transactions. Quarterback Samuel Seward leads the Bulls with a completion rate of 42.3 percent, having completed 33 of 78 pass attempts for a total of 406 yards. He has nine touchdown passes and four interceptions to go with his 87 yards of rushing and is ninth in total offense (123.2 ypg) Dijon Richard is second in the NAL averaging 48.5 ypg, has carried the ball 45 times for 194 yards and four touchdowns and has caught seven passes for 58 yards and a score. Harold Brooks leads the team with seven receptions for 145 yards and four touchdowns. LaDon Hudson has four receptions for 51 yards. His three touchdowns are fourth in league scoring per game averaging 11 ppg. Romeo Roberts is third in the league averaging 25.8 yards per kickoff return.
Linebacker Adyn Schwarzer leads the Bulls with 17 tackles, sacks with one, tackles for loss with 5.5, and with three forced fumbles. Kearyn Taylor and Michael Cotton each have two interceptions. Dallas has made the least number of sacks with only 2 and is third in the NAL with a turnover margin of +2 (8 gained, 6 lost).
The Bulls signed Darrien Crowe before last week’s game, and he went six of seven on extra points tries.
Omaha will hit the road again, travelling to Amarillo, Texas to take on the Warbirds next Saturday. It will be the first meeting between the Warbirds and the Beef.
