Sioux City Bandits @ Omaha Beef

April 4th – 6:30pm CT

Liberty First Credit Union Arena

Sioux City scored the first 26 points of the game to stop an eight-game skid Saturday night vs Omaha as they beat the Beef 26-6 at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. Costly Omaha turnovers helped the Bandits build a 16-0 lead and the Beef offense could not make a big play when they needed one as Sioux City took the first game of the I-29 rivalry this season.

Omaha finally got on the scoreboard with 4:28 remaining in the game as James Summers hit William Langford with a two-yard pass. The Beef did out gain the Bandits by 12 yards (164 vs 152) but lost the time of possession by almost 17 minutes. Summers went 18 of 29 for 147 yards and picked up 22 yards on 11 carries.  William Langford was the leading receiver with six catches for 23 yards and the touchdown. Dequan Dudley added four catches for 45 yards and David Ross had 4 for 28 yards. New wide receiver Lorenzo Thompson made three catches for 46 yards in his first game with the Beef.

Ponce Deleon led the defense with 10 tackles. Terrance Jackson added six tackles while newly signed Kye Black made five tackles. Linebacker Jaylen Johnson and DL Rudy Ngougni each picked up a sack for Omaha.

Omaha first half didn’t go anything like the Beef wanted.  Their first drive went to the Bandits five yardline only to fumble and the Bandits got a 22-yard field goal from Dylan Karnes. On their second drive they fumble again, and Sioux City got the ball at Omaha’s one.  Three plays later it was 10-0 Sioux City as Lorenzo Brown got the rushing touchdown. The third drive, Omaha had a field goal blocked and four plays later it was 16-0 Bandits as Brown hit Damond Powell on a 10-yard pass. The fourth drive ended after they failed to pick up a yard. Omaha had 22 plays for 59 yards while Sioux City ran 21 plays for 74 yards in the first half.

Sioux City got the ball to start the third quarter and drove down the field and Brandon Sheperd caught a four-yard touchdown pass to make it 23-0. Quarterback Lorenzo Brown completed 14 of 17 passes for 98 yards, including two touchdown throws, and added 20 rushing yards.  Jeff Mack carried the ball 13 times for 32 yards. Damond Powell led the Bandits with six catches for 42 yards. Jadon Johnson had four catches for 31 yards and Brandon Sheperd made three catches for 20 yards. Carlton Watkins led the Bandits with 10 tackles, while Fred Hardgrove added seven tackles and had one sack and one block kick. Dajon Emory picked up the other sack for Sioux City.

Omaha is off next week and will return to action on April 18th when they travel to Denver to take on the Colorado Spartans. They will return to Liberty First Credit Union on April 25th to host the Dallas Bulls.

OTHER NOTES:
