Beef sign former Husker standout, runningback Imani Cross
- Updated: August 1, 2016
Ralston, NE- Head Coach Cory Ross made it official on Saturday, former Husker runningback Imani Cross will be joining the Omaha Beef for the 2017 season. Cross is coming off a great career in Lincoln and will move 50 miles up the road to play with America’s Longest Running Indoor Football Team.
Coach Ross had this to say about the addition of Cross, “To have another Husker great join the Beef is outstanding! The Omaha Beef have a great tradition of welcoming great talent that comes out of Lincoln over the years and we feel that the Beef will be stepping up another level of success from that of this past season.”
Cross was a standout performer throughout his Nebraska career, amassing 1,661 career yards and 28 TD’s to tie for 14th in school history. The 6-1, 240-pound Cross was a powerful short-yardage option for the Huskers each of his four seasons. He ran for more than 300 yards in each of his four seasons and also had at least five rushing touchdowns each year. Cross is the only Husker to reach the 25-TD mark in less than 300 carries.
While known for his gritty play, and ability to pick up those important short yards Cross is more than a one trick pony, his 62 yard rushing touchdown against Fresno State and 25 yard touchdown against Florida Atlantic are excellent examples of the explosiveness the Cross will bring to the Beef in 2017.
Director of Marketing and Communications, Alex Reese, had this to say, “Having these successful Huskers join the Beef each season is part of what makes the Beef so special and fun for everyone to watch! Fans in Nebraska can enjoy football all year by seeing great Husker talent in the Fall and the Spring.”
In 2016 the Beef finished the season tied for second in the Northern division and narrowly missed out on the playoffs after the tiebreakers. The Beef defense was one of the best in the league being the stingiest in yards allowed and also ranking 3rd in scoring. The offense struggled at times though, finishing 9th in scoring and 6th in total offense. The addition of Cross is the first move Coach Ross has made to adding more firepower to an offense that struggled at times to move the ball in 2016.
The Beef will start their 18th season of play this February and season tickets are on sale now! Season tickets start at just $65 each or a special 4-pack for just $199. During August five month payment plans will also be available. Contact Alex to purchase your season tickets now before the best seats are gone!
