Beef Announce 2018 Coaching Staff
- Updated: February 20, 2018
Introducing The New 2018 Omaha Beef Coaching Staff
Mike Bonner – Head Coach
Omaha native Mike Bonner will be the Omaha Beef Head Coach for the 2018 season. This will be his ninth season coaching professional indoor football.
Bonner finished the 2017 season as Interim Head Coach for the Salina Liberty after being promoted from Offensive Coordinator at midseason.
Bonner previously coached in several indoor leagues such as the Indoor Football (IFL) Lone Star Football League, and the X-League. Also, Bonner was a Game Day Operator for the United Football League’s Omaha Nighthawks during the 2010 inaugural season.
Bonner had a four-year playing career that was plagued by injuries. He played with the Iowa Blackhawks (2004/2005), and the Kansas Koyotes (2007/2008).
Bonner is eager for the season to begin and anticipates an intimidating fan base. “I feel extremely blessed to become Head Coach of the Omaha Beef Indoor football team. I can’t wait until we can get started in camp. It’s been a long journey, but there’s nothing like having the fans in the slaughterhouse behind you,” Bonner said.
Rod Miller – Associate Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator
North Omaha native Rod Miller will return for his second stint as an Omaha Beef coach. In his first term as a coach of the Beef, he introduced former All-Star players such as; James McNear, Brent Hafford and Dustin Creager to the Beef Nation.
Miller has had success as a coach in the United States as well as overseas. As the Head Coach of the 2017 China Arena Football League, (CAFL) he led the Qingdao Clipper to the championship game. Prior to China, Miller was the defensive Coordinator for the 2016 League Champions of the CIF with the Wichita Force.
Miller has a long history of coaching in both arena and indoor football leagues. He has left a mark in several cities such as Philadelphia, Grand Rapids, Bloomington, Kansas City, Cleveland and Laredo. Coach Miller has successfully help take teams to championships in three separate leagues.
Marty Almendarez – Head Equipment Manager
In 2011, Marty Almendarez started out as an intern equipment manager for the Kansas City Command. The intern position didn’t last long before he was quickly promoted to the Head Equipment Manager during the season. He spent another season with the Command before moving on to the KC Renegades in 2013. Almendarez worked with the KC Phantoms last season before finding a new home with the Omaha Beef.
The Omaha Beef Organization thanks Victor Mann for his time and dedication during the offseason. Due to family obligations, both parties mutually agreed to part ways before the 2018 season. We send our best wishes to Mr. Mann and his family and look forward to what the future provides.
The rest of the 2018 coaching staff will be announced as Coach Mike Bonner finalizes the roster. The Omaha Beef look to open up the 2018 season against the Texas Power next Friday, March 2nd at The Ralston Arena. Season Ticket Holders will be able to pick up their tickets Monday, February 26th at Dave & Busters from 6:00p.m. – 8:30p.m. This will be your chance to meet your 2018 Players, Dancers, Rump Roasters and Coaching Staff. Please call 402-346-BEEF or email John@BeefFootball.com for any other questions or concerns. As a team, we are more than ready to build off of last year’s success and finally bring the CIF Championship Trophy back home to the best fans here in Omaha!
